If you have been a victim of violence, you could be eligible for compensation.

If you have been a victim of violence, you could be eligible for compensation. The government has funds available to compensate victims of violent crime through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA). Claims can be made in relation to physical, sexual and disabling mental injuries.

Anyone who has suffered from physical or sexual abuse now or historically have the potential to make a claim, whether you were a child or an adult at the time. The government has a fund specifically for this whereby the abuser will never be notified of a claim. The claim can therefore be made confidentially.

For an adult, these range from £2,000 to £8,200 for physical abuse and for children, these can be up to £13,500. Claims can be made in relation to both physical and disabling mental injuries sustained as a result of the abuse. Psychological injuries which has a substantially adverse effect on a person’s ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities range from £1,000 to £44,000.

To be eligible, the injuries must be qualifying in nature, the victim must be considered as blameless and the abuser cannot benefit from any compensation if for example, the relationship is continuing. Pepperells can act for you in making such a claim and offer a “no win no fee” option for suitable cases.

Should you wish to discuss matters confidentially, please contact us.
